Understand group pricing - packages vs subscriptions
Learn the difference between package-based and subscription-based pricing models for your group classes.
Understand group pricing: packages vs subscriptions
Teeachie supports two pricing models for group classes. Understanding the difference helps you choose the right approach for your teaching style.
The two pricing models
Package pricing
A package is a fixed number of sessions that students purchase upfront.
How it works:
- You define a package (e.g., “10 Group Sessions”)
- Students pay for the package
- Each attended class deducts one session
- When sessions run out, they need a new package
Best for:
- Fixed-length courses (8-week course, 12-session program)
- Students who prefer paying in advance
- Clear start and end points
Example:
“Intermediate Spanish Course” – 10 sessions for $200 Student attends each class, sessions remaining: 10 → 9 → 8…
Subscription pricing
A subscription provides ongoing enrollment with recurring payments.
How it works:
- You define a subscription (e.g., “Monthly Group Access”)
- Students pay on a recurring basis (e.g., monthly)
- Each payment adds credits (sessions) based on the per-class price
- Attendance deducts sessions, same as packages
- There’s no fixed end date – the enrollment continues
Best for:
- Ongoing group classes without a fixed end
- Students who prefer monthly payments
- Predictable recurring income
Example:
“Monthly Group Classes” – $80/month (4 classes at $20 each) Student pays monthly, gets 4 credits added, attendance deducts from balance
Comparison table
| Aspect | Package | Subscription |
|---|---|---|
| Payment | One-time upfront | Recurring |
| Sessions | Fixed total (pre-set) | Credits added over time |
| Duration | Until sessions used | No fixed end date |
| Tracking | Sessions remaining | Sessions remaining (may show overdue if attendance outpaces payments) |
| Best for | Courses, programs | Ongoing classes |
Choosing the right model
Use packages when:
- You’re running a structured course with a set number of classes
- Students commit to completing a program
- You want clear “paid for X classes” tracking
- The group has a defined end date
Use subscriptions when:
- Your group meets regularly without a set end
- Students have varying attendance
- You prefer predictable monthly income
- Flexibility matters more than commitment
Mixed approaches
The system is designed to support multiple offers per group, but in the current version you choose one model per group when you create it. If you want to offer both options, create separate groups:
- Package group – For students who want a fixed commitment
- Subscription group – For students who prefer ongoing payments
Setting prices
When creating offers, consider:
- Per-session value – What each class is worth
- Bulk discounts – Packages often offer slight savings
- Market rates – What similar teachers charge
- Your time investment – Preparation, teaching, follow-up
Pricing examples
| Model | Example | Per-session cost |
|---|---|---|
| Package | 10 sessions for $180 | $18/session |
| Package | 20 sessions for $320 | $16/session |
| Subscription | $80/month (4 classes) | ~$20/session |
Currency considerations
All prices and revenue are shown in your preferred currency (set in your profile). Group offers and enrollments don’t have their own currency setting – everything uses your teacher preference.
